Suitably vague, but quite catchy...

You Are Welcome...

...to this, Carlton Showcase LXXIX, formally known as the Workshops. We changed the name to 'Showcase' because we felt it more accurately described the combination of drama, comedy, thrills, chills and spills that we have for you tonight.

Also, we run acting workshops from time to time, and bless us, we’re easily confused.

So, Showcase it is. But where did we get LXXIX from? Well, you may not know this, but the Carlton Dramatic Society was formed in 1927, and apart from a short break in the early 1940's for something, we've been performing ever since. Those of you with your Maths O-Level will have calculated that Carlton is therefore 79 years old, and LXXIX is Roman for 79.

QED (that's Roman too).

Next year, 2007, will be the Carlton’s 80th year, and we have some exciting commemorative events taking place.

But for now, sit back, relax, pop the cork, pour a glass and enjoy yourselves. You’re only 79 once.
